I do not think Emlid sells any sort of replaceable parts. They should… especially these, but i do not think they will, but maybe.
I dont have time, but someone should 3d scan / model those silicone rubber pieces for 3d printing from TPU to glue back on. Better than nothing.
There is a .STEP file to download in DOCS that would help “somewhat”… but it would require work and checking for accurate sizing to use portions of the model for output.
Hi @a.foucher,
Since this case will require sensitive data, can you write to us at support@emlid.com?
Indeed, it could be the ultimate solution, but for the time being, a good patch with tape will do the trick ( but it’s a real pain for usb recharge.).
The problem is that it doesn’t look very professional.
Ok i’ll contact them and keep the community aware
Good grief… that “Alabama Chrome” will make a sticky mess out of your Emlid. Then as it deteriorates, even worse.
I’d take it off before you ruin it.
Hopefully @olesia.riman will sell you some silicone pieces out of those barrels full of them in China?
Oh yes, I’m agree, it’s definitely a dirty method.
But very temporarily I’ll prefer that to water infiltration, for which I’ll have no choice but to buy a new antenna…
So I’ll wait for the support reply, and keep you posted
The tabs open the WRONG direction to be functional and easy to use. They need to open the opposite direction. But Emlid has been told that long ago. If you still have the rubber boots, you can buy very thin two sided tape to stick them back on. But if you have lost them, I believe you are out of luck. But unless you are using them in the rain, I don’t think it is a big deal to not have them covered. Having a missing cover just bothers me even if it does not affect functionality :0
Arnaud,
We have received your email and will let you know once we have any updates.
Tim,
Thank you for the feedback. We’re constantly looking into ways to improve Reach devices and are thinking about the ways we can improve these covers.
If anyone has an issue with their rubber covers, please contact us at suport@emlid.com, and we will help you.
Not sure what you mean by “opposite direction”?
If you mean pivoting the flaps outwards and away from the main housing, that would expose them to damage and simply be asking for trouble. For example, in the case of a rover, currently when an antenna is installed the flap is held inwards and out of harm’s way streamlined against the housing and physically protected by the antenna.
I wouldn’t be happy having anything hanging out exposed to damage resulting from getting caught on branches or whatever.
Having said that, for Emlid what is clear is that the current access is very tight and a little more clearance on the next generation to install antenna or cables without undue force and abuse of the flap would see them last a lot longer.
Ziplock bag - When the clouds turn to gray.
Yep, I use them on my Emlid’s and Javad receivers. Rain is slightly acidic and will eventually erode the nice finish. Use either Ziploc quart or gallon, they won’t affect signal quality.
I pay hard earned $$ for all our equipment, I won’t take a chance on moisture with electronics, theodolites or total stations !
I quite agree that looking outwards can pose additional concerns.
At the moment, I think that the narrowness of the housing and the material of the cover make it deteriorate quickly than expected. Also, before breaking, it happens that on our antenna that the silicon part simply peels off, the rain altering the self-adhesive capacity of the double-sided material.
What can be done next is to upgrade the opening system in terms of both size and material. Maybe even the opening system can be redesigned. As an example, we have equipment from other brands that are all designed for outdoor use. And we haven’t had any problems with the protectors getting lost.
Here are a few examples, and on intrument like total station the cover are usually in solid material with hinge.
The emlid support team took my request on board, and the matter was settled by e-mail.
Emlid design was form over function in this case.
