Why should you update the Reach firmware and do it regularly?

Today, we’re focusing on the importance of regular firmware updates to help you keep up with the changes we make to Reach receivers.

New firmware versions are created to support maximum performance and improve the functionality of the receivers. The frequency with which we release updates allows us to get you the features you need faster. Each update is limited to what is most important at the time. This allows us to thoroughly test planned additions and improvements and maintain stability.

In addition, updating the receiver is important for troubleshooting—your problem may have already been solved. That’s why we recommend you always check the available updates.

Emlid Flow also allows you to subscribe to Beta updates, which are an easy way to try out pre-release firmware versions and test new features. These versions are still in development and may interfere with your usual workflow, so we don’t recommend using them if you’re working on business projects. If you encounter any bugs or would like to share your feedback, leave a comment in the Community Forum thread or contact us directly at support@emlid.com. This will help us to improve the software and ensure stability of the upcoming Stable release.

The Emlid Flow app will notify you of update availability when Reach is connected to the internet. Connect to your receiver using the app and go to the Firmware updates section in Settings. When an update is available, you’ll see a red dot next to it. If you don’t get a notification, make sure your device has a connection to the internet. The only exception is Reach RX, which doesn’t have notifications and is currently updated via Flash tool. To keep your Reach RX up to date, you can check the latest available firmware version in Flash tool, read about updates in the Community Forum thread, or get this information from Docs.

To learn more about what’s included in the update, check out the thread on the Community Forum or Changelogs in Docs. If you still have any questions about firmware updates or would like to share your feedback, we are always here for you. Feel free to leave a comment below or contact us at support@emlid.com.

P.S. Don’t miss our latest post about the difference between the localization and base shift features in the Emlid Flow app.
