Hi, Im trying to get NMEA GPS for my GPR. I have been told it is easy over USB so I was wondering what is the best way.
Why not just try both out ?
The serial connection is physically more robust due to the LEMU connector with it retention mechanism, but USB is more convenient, requiring less/no tinkering with power/soldering/wires.
Hi Jonathan,
Welcome to the community!
You can stream the position from the Reach via a wired connection using our custom connector-DB9 or USB-C. We also offer a custom connector without a second end if you need to customize it. The choice depends on what’s easier to integrate with your GPR.
I agree with Christian that USB-C is the more convenient and universal option.
Can I not do this via Bluetooth?
Please could you send me simple instructions on how to set this ‘streaming up’ via USB C from my Reach 2? Its the internal settings I’m unsure about… to get the NMEA streaming out correctly.
First, install Emlid’s firmware flash tool. It includes a driver that will enable your OS to detect the serial device when it’s plugged in. If you want to easily verify it’s working, you can then just pop in QGIS and try to connect it in the GNSS panel.
Yes, you can use the bluetooth option to send the position in a wireless way.
We do have this guide on how to connect the Reach via Bluetooth and set the position streaming output. If you want to use USB, you can choose the Serial one instead.
