What if Pi crashes while flying?

Hello,

It seems that if Raspberry should crash the SW while flying, the aircraft would fall like a stone.

Can you confirm or rule out this, please?

Thanks.

If the controlling unit crashes then, of course, the control will be lost. That’s not specific to the Raspberry Pi, the same can happen to microcontroller-based autopilots also and the chance of such situation is minimal.

There are a few failsafe mechanisms that were programmed to help regain control and increase safety:
Systemd monitors that Ardupilot is running and restarts it in case it crashes, also if there’s no controlling signal from the Ardupilot then RC signal output generation will end to stop the motors.

you are screwed…
