Hey @millsy.g. For the last year I’ve been working hard on trying to get my f9p dev board system (the same system in the rs2) to work with topcon rovers. I am using an fc-500 data collector and a hiper sr rover. Maybe I should just buy a new rs3 and use Emlids ntrip caster and that should work I think. Or maybe you know what Emlid did to get the rs2 to finally work with topcon. I’ve read all your post on Emlid and I am having the same problem you did with the 20 min fix’s. I do see the cost savings in getting an Emlid instead of using topcon. I have 2 excavators with topcon rtk systems. Love to hear from you. Thanks
I’m thinking the RS2+ would be just as suitable for a permanent base station.
I believe the main difference between the RS2+ & RS3 is the tilt compensation feature.
Maybe the $300 savings could go into your mounting assembly.
I don’t mind spending more for the rs3. I might use it as a rover instead of a base in the future anyways. I am saving a lot of money buying a rs3 instead of a topcon base/rover. I am very curious on what Emlid did to allow there bases to work with third party (topcon). I might start a topic/discussion on this because I can’t find a clear answer on what was done. Thanks
I did not know what a m2 was till now I will do more research about it, but I assume it acts like a rs3 but just in a permanent location? 900$ for a full kit is not a bad deal. I’m still interested in how or what Emlid did to allow third party support with just an update. I’ve started a topic
M2’s would work also. I had two I just used for static observations, but sold one to a friend of mine who loves tech gear. He set his up as a permanent base but it’s not fully operational as his interests vary.
They are great little receivers for the money and excellent for static use. You have to buy an antenna and power bank of course. Mine’s almost 4 years old and is still ticking. I wish I never sold my other one
Thanks for the interest in Emlid Products. Regarding your curiosity about how Emlid receivers works with third-party equipment like Topcon, it will works through improved RTK implementation and communication protocols. This allows the Reach receivers to receive corrections from various NTRIP servers, including those from manufacturers like Topcon uses.
You can uses a Caster or other NTRIP services to communicate with the third-party receivers using RTCM3 messages, but note that the Topcon receivers may require some legacy messages as shown below:
I have 85% of the hardware to set up a permanent bar station using an M2. Distance from the antenna to the wifi router is my challenge.
Are they no longer available?
I remember them being quite affordable.
I only wish emlid made a complete base station kit
Around 60 metres
Was going to use a wifi access point. And that’s causing the delay.
Also would need to get POE power supply and other supporting accessories
Lol.
No.
My office is on the 2nd floor of a 3 story building. In addition, to get an unobstructed view of the sky i will not be able to use the area directly above me. It might be closer to 150’ from router.
