Using REACH to survey under a tree canopy

After about a year of using reach under a tree canopy, a couple of tips.
Setup:

  1. set up under a hole in the canopy if possible
  2. extend the antenna above the canopy if possible
  3. chose a still wind day, overnight and minimal cloud or rain
  4. pick a time where the most number of GPS satellites are above 30 degrees
    note it can still work under a canopy if the settings below are followed.

Post Processing

  1. use Continuous or Instantaneous in Options>Setting2>Integer Ambiguity Res in RTK Lib (very important!!!)
  2. Look at the SNR/MP-EL plot of the data and pick the terrain mask where the SNR is at least >40 but better >45
  3. Use GPS only
