Sony a6000 settings

I have searched for an answer in the plethora of threads a search for a6000 yields but I can’t find a summary of critical camera settings to get proper geotagging in the M+/M2 modules. The only setting I’m sure of is the USB function. It needs to be set to Storage Device. I’ve also found that the quality should be set to high jpg. Raw files should not be collected. It takes time to write the extra file so you need to fly slower.

We’ve been experiencing issues with getting Geotagging started before a flight. We’re using a Freefly Alta-X with a M+ (soon to be upgraded to M2). We start geotagging on the Herelink controller running Freefly QGC.

Can anyone direct me to a list of critical settings?

Hi @jloder,

For the integration between the Sony a6000 camera and the M+ or M2 modules, our suggestion is to integrate the device with the camera via the hot-shoe adapter. In our documents we have the detailed explanation of how to configure the setup.

That seems to be a dead link.
We’ve been using the hot-shoe adapter with our M+ with good results. At least by L1 standards. We’ll be using the M2 shortly. We have one on order. I would like to verify that we’re using the best possible settings in the a6000 when I configure the new setup. The only critical setting I’m aware of is the USB - Storage Device. I’ve also found that High Quality without RAW is a good option.

Hi @jloder, my bad! Fixed the link.

The hot-shoe cable will function the same way with the M2 as it does with the M+, with the key difference being that the M2 is a multi-band receiver. This means you’ll likely notice an improvement in signal reception. Regarding critical settings on our end for the M+/M2 receivers, we don’t have specific configuration recommendations, as the camera settings will depend on your flight parameters.
