Hey guys. Had been using RS3 with Carlson SurvPC on a Panasonic Toughpad Windows 10, no issues. Hadn’t used the setup for maybe 3-4 months, got setup today and SurvPC couldn’t make the BT connection to the RS3. SurvPC could see it in the devices list (deleted the RS3 and forced a search for it again) however when attempting to connect, it would time out.
When it comes to connecting the RS3 with third-party software, like Carlson SurvPC in your case, via Bluetooth, we can check a few things to make sure position streaming works, so let’s see.
For one, our units use two types of Bluetooth connections: BLE and classical Bluetooth. BLE connects the unit to the Emlid Flow app, and classical Bluetooth is used to transmits real-time position data from the Reach receiver to third-party software or devices. Using such connections at the same time sometimes leads to disconnection. So, with this, I’d recommend making sure that the unit is not connected to our app via Bluetooth at the same time as you’re setting up with Carlson SurvPC.
It would also be helpful for me to understand how you are connecting the unit with Carlson SurvPC. Can you share screenshots of the configuration in the setup? I can get a better understanding and give some pointers that may help.
Thankyou for your response. In My Windows 10 tablet Bluetooth settings, it is only able to ‘pair’ with the RS3, only very occasionally and briefly managing to reach ‘connected’ status. I have managed to connect me tablet to other Bluetooth devices without issue.
I have switched my phone completely to aeroplane mode when trying to connect SurvPC to RS3 to eliminate the possibility that there is interference there.
Silly question – have you tried unpairing and repairing the RS3 in Windows (ie. do this before trying in SurvPC)? Sometimes when Windows does an update, the Bluetooth gets screwy on our Carlson rt4s. We sometimes need to unpair and then repair the Bluetooth connections. This happens even with our BRX7s.
As my colleague noted, the connection might be affected by BLE and Bluetooth interference. I’d like to double-check these details:
Are you connecting to the unit via Bluetooth in Emlid Flow?
Is it getting corrections from NTRIP through Emlid Flow?
What is the current firmware version of RS3?
By any chance, do you have an Android device? It’d be helpful to check if this behavior also persists with other software. For example, you can track if the connection is reestablishing with the Lefebure NTRIP app. This guide shows how to do it.
