tim, do I always need a connection to wifi? or once they connect it still works without wifi

you can connect to them via WIFI, CELLULAR HOTSPOT, or direct HOTSPOT to each of the units (among other methods also). Once you are out of range of WIFI though you obviously lose the connection, therefore not being able to set settings and see live updates.

You use LoRa (Long Range radio) so the 2 units can communicate data between the two, but you still need some sort of connection from your phone, tablet etc to see settings, etc in ReachView. i.e. wifi, cellular phone hotspot or the units built in hotspot when nearby each of them.
