Reach to geotag with a Sony A6000

Hi,
I’ve heard of a few people integrating the Reach with a Sony A6000 via the hotshoe adapter.

So I need a flight controller that is telling the camera when to take the photos?
Can a DJI A2 or A3 be used for this?
Or is it best to get a pixhawk flight controller?

I’m just not fully clear on the integration of the Reach with the camera and then with the flight controller ie. can the reach connect to the camera via hotshoe and not need to be connected directly to the flight controller at all?

Any help is much appreciated.

Yes, Reach is autopilot independent.
