I am trying to merge the RC Input example with the Servo Example. I want to be able to manually control the servo from my RC Input (Taranis). Any thoughts or direction?

I am not sure if understand you correctly;
is rc passthrough what you are looking for? in mission planner you can use value 1 for the rc channels you would like to pass through from your remote!
look for for rc channel options in mission planner full parameters list!
I am trying to accomplish something similar to the tutorial above to be able to control the ailerons of the plane.

SBUS and CPPM is supported out of the box! after setting up connection with missionplanner you should be able to control your ailerons with you taranis!
