I got the authorization from the equipment manager to upgrade my M+ to M2. In doing so, I need to get the Multiband antenna. It’s quite a bit different than the L1. It looks like there’s a jam-nut on the end of the cable. Is this supposed to be a bulkhead mount that the antenna can screw onto? I’m putting this on an Alta-X. I’m sure it would be better to use the tall mount that the L1 is on. I could simply drill the appropriate hole and use said jam-nut end. Does that sound doable?
Hi @jloder,
The M+ and M2 use different antennas to receive and send signals. The M+ is a single-band receiver that works only with the L1 antenna (Tallysman TW4721) and the M2 is a multi-band receiver, so it will receive corrections from other bands, so the antenna will be different (Helical antenna).
We don’t encourage users to modify the physical characteristics of the equipment because doing so could damage other components of the equipment.
Thank you, Victor.
We just ordered this:
I’ve been assured the M2 will be a direct change-out from the M+ for the hot-shoe and power supply. I plan on using the same mount the builder used:
There’s enough room to drill for the coax end. It has a jam-nut for bulkhead style mount. I’ll run the cable along the same route the L1 antenna cable uses now. The antenna will be about 4 inches above the props in operation. That should get a clear signal
Let me know if you have any concerns about this plan
Hopefully someone familiar with antenna mounting will jump in… seems may not have to use a mast with the Emlid Helical antenna?
The builder should have NEVER opted for the M+. Maybe someone else there with any sense that built it can give you a second opinion and help you with fixing the M+ M2 flub up. No reason to cheap out like that to save a dime.
