Issue with Reach RS3 & RIEGL VZ-600i – GNSS Time Sync Error in Kinematic Scanning

Hi everyone,

We’re trying to use an Emlid Reach RS3 as an external antenna for a RIEGL VZ-600i scanner. We’ve connected via TCP, and the scanner successfully recognizes the Reach. When using RTK, we achieve approximately 2m accuracy.

However, when switching to kinematic scanning, we encounter a GNSS time sync error.

Troubleshooting steps we’ve tried so far:

*Set the RIEGL VZ-600i time to UTC.

  • Attempted the same setup with a Reach RS2+, but the issue persists.

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or does anyone have suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Dillon,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing what you’ve tried so far!

Since this sync issue involves a third-party setup and we haven’t tested it ourselves, I can’t share any specific advice here. It might be better to reach out to RIEGL support. They will likely have more insight into this particular configuration.

Also, the 2-meter accuracy seems a bit unusual. If the unit has resolved the ambiguities and is getting a FIX solution, you should see accuracy within a few centimeters.

Thank you very much for the response we will contact them.
Must have been a typo we get 2cm accuracy

Hi Dillon,

Thank you for clarifying! That makes much more sense. I hope RIEGL support can help, but if there’s anything else I can do, let me know.
