Is a Base Shift Neccessary

If we are trying to achieve absolutes accuracy in our survey. From my understanding, we should set our survey pole up on a known point. Enter the known point into our survey project from information we found in an online data base. Then create a measured point on top of that known point. Apply a base shift from the known point on to the measured point. The all the points we collect afterwards will have the base shift applied to them for extreme accuracy ? Do we need to sit on a known point, measure it, then apply a base shift? I not then what is the point of finding a known point before collecting ground control points?

A Base Shift is used when you are NOT going to occupy a particular known point. But you want your collected points to reference that known point.

If you are setting up your base on a known point. And you are confident in the coordinates of that point. You would enter the point’s coordinates in your base settings making sure to enter your pole height.

Your collected points would then reference that know point.

Hi @uavteam,

Welcome to our Community Forum!

I saw that @dpitman has already answered your questions, and yes a Base Shift is used when you’re not directly on a known point but want your points to reference it. If you are on a known point and knows the coordinates, just enter those into your base settings, including the pole height, and your points will reference that one.
