ESC Lead connection

Good day every body.

A lot of people including myself remove the ESC power lead and only leave the signal and ground lead when plugging the lead in to the Motor rail since the esc is powered by the PDB.

Is this also necessary for the Navio2?

The PWM/motor header is not internally powered, so depends on your application and ESC’s. We use KDE ESC’s which are opto isolated from motor input, so need 5V supplied to the PWM rail to work. If your ESC’s have BECs then you could leave one of the power wires attached to supply 5V to the rail. Any 5V source supplied to the rail can be used as back-up power so it’s a nice option.
