EMLID FLOW Survey Plan - As builts, surface comps

Hi Guys,

Does anyone here use the Survey Plan in Emlid Flow? I am considering a purchase and would like to understand some of the benefits? Primarily, I would like to be able to perform as builts in the field of things like building pads, sidewalks, curb, etc. and be able to export them to my team of engineers for review. Is this something that is possible? Also, I would like to be able to import drone surfaces and compare to final grade surfaces in the field for review with site grading foremen. Let me know if these are some things I can do with the plan.

Thanks,

You can collect points and import them to CAD without the Survey plan, but yes you can load surfaces with it and in your example I would think you would want to load the site model and compare it on the ground or have your Superintendent setup with a rover so they can drive around and check grade. That’s the real way to implement it. If you are wanting to compare your last drone surface to the design then you need other software like CloudCompare, Civil 3D or Agtek or the 10’s of others that are out there.

Thanks for this. I use Virtual Surveyor in my office to do the surface to surface comparisons but was hoping to have a mobile solution as well. Maybe you know of some of the more attractive benefits of having Survey? Is it worth it? I know the cost is pretty minimal.

Localization and staking surfaces is essential for what we do in construction. We now have the ability to import linework from DXF and some other good gains are linework, inverse/traverse, background maps, auto-topo and etc… It depends on how much you use the system and how advanced your operations are. If I didn’t have most of these I would be using another software entirely.

Hi Chris,

I received your email on this, and I just got back to you. But as @michaelL has mentioned, with the Survey Plan, you can access features like Localization, CAD files, and working with surfaces that can be useful for your projects. To ease and maintain one channel of communication, let’s go through this over there.
