Emlid flow 360 and autocad lt

Hello,

I’am trying to align my autocad drawing into emlid flow 360 for project stakeout. Is there a way to correctly line up the cad drawing over some of my recorded points? The drawings are in the same units but are not lined up. Is there a way to drag and rotate the cad background appropriately? I’m on autocad Lt for Mac so geolocation is not supported. Any help would be appreciated.

First you need to figure out why it doesn’t align. Is it a consistent distance and bearing (angle) from all points? Or a consistent scale from 0,0? It could be a units conversion, or it could be a scale factor.

Personally, I would move the points to the CAD, but you can go either way. Can you share a link to download the CAD with everything in it? I would be happy to take a look.

Well I drew the cad before I knew the gps coordinates. Would I have to go into cad and redraw at the correct x,y coordinates? I didn’t know if I could simply shift the points on the cad to match up with my recorded points? If so I definitely can’t seem to find the option.

If that’s the case, then I would block the linework and use the ALIGN command to move it to the common points you know. The best way is to draw 2D polylines from a CAD spot to surveyed point and snap to that when you do the align. This is important if the CAD is 2D and the points are 3D because the align command will try to use the 3D distances and it won’t land in the right place.

Michael, thank you so much that worked exactly. I really appreciate it. I am mostly self taught at cad and am still learning a lot. A few years in and I’m still learning new stuff everyday.

Awesome, glad it worked out. I’ve been operating CAD for over 20 years, and I learn new commands all the time. Still trying to become proficient with Pipe Network in Civil 3D but that’s a whole other beast to slay. Especially when you don’t need it often. Now get that CAD back in Flow!

Hi there,

It looks like everything’s been covered already, so I don’t have anything else to add. @michaelL, thank you for the helpful insights!
