Can the reach modules be updated inside a building?

Or do you have to set it up outside to do updates
I just received the reach modules and don"t wnt to mess it up now

Inside is fine. The most simple way is to connect Reach to a wifi router/hotspot with internet access and use the update button on the ReachView web page.
