CAD drawings support in Emlid Flow

Hi there!

We’re excited to announce that Emlid Flow now supports CAD drawings, making set-out and as-built surveys easier. The app preserves the original drawings, maintaining the geometry view, colors, and annotations as designed. Check out the comparison below:

Since the CAD drawing isn’t linked to the main project objects, it functions similarly to a background map. The difference is that you can stake out its geometries.

To work with CAD drawing in Emlid Flow, do as follows:

  1. Create or open an existing project in Emlid Flow 360. Make sure that it has the same coordinate system as your CAD drawing.
  2. Import your CAD drawing into the project in Emlid Flow 360.
  3. Access the project with CAD drawing in Emlid Flow using your Emlid account.
  4. Make sure the CAD drawing is shown and start surveying.

Explore our step-by-step guide on working with CAD drawings in Emlid Flow in our documentation.

Give it a try today!

Now, how about a dark mode, or black screen? This makes it much easier to see lighter colors, especially in the sun. The lighter colors are the majority of the palette that allows for more variation and distinction between layers/systems. Last but not least, it saves a ton of battery life.

Very nice , good job Emlid

FINALLY GETTING SOMEWHERE!!! Emlid you have the edge over others if you can keep hammering much needed features out!

Hopefully 2D/3D arcs, circles, splines etc will also be supported soon if not.

Hi,
I have uploaded my first CAD file (as a DXF) to one of our project sucessfully. It looks perfect in Emlid Flow 360 web page, however it does not appear in Emlid Flow app! Any change in the data gets synchronised instantly but the CAD file is not listed in the Emlid Flow app at all. Has anyone tried this? Am I missing something?

Have you updated Emlid Flow to the the latest version that includes this functionality?

Make sure Flow is updated. Mine syncs immediately.

We are cooking on gas again!

Hi @michaelL,

Thanks for the idea! I’ve passed it on to our development team.

Hi @keith.mwangi,

We have also upgraded to using the CAD functionality, and have had an issue when Exporting our project after collecting extra Survey data using our Survey+ subscription.

Exporting the project using the CSV export or CSV (PENZD) or any other CSV format, concatenates the data and does nbot have the extended informaiton and metadata such as time of capture, along with the description appended to the code, as it used to:

1 493000 5400000 120.000 NS

is all that is shown in the CSV, obvisoulsy with many more lines.

This creates an issue where we cannot discern between points captured with description and that of the points in the project that were converted from the CAD import.

Are you able to look into this please? This was using iOS device, but liekly to be an issues for others.

@michaelL do you have any comment too please?

Hi @rbugg,

Did I understand correctly that this issue only persists when CAD files are imported into the project?

Also, could you please share the CSV (PENZD and Full CSV) with us via email at support@emlid.com so we can investigate further? Thank you!

a future feature for the CAD Drawings that i’d really like to see is sort of a CAD Drawing Manager so that once you upload that drawing can then be assigned to multiple projects. Make it easier from a management point when you have to start a new project but don’t have that data to upload into that new project.

Hi Jason,

That’s a great idea! Now that we support CAD drawings, having a CAD drawing library makes sense. This would allow storing drawings in one place and easily adding them to any project. I’ve shared this with the team. There is no ETA to share right now, but I’ll keep you posted if there are any updates.

I agree. Then your workflow would be more like CAD and loading XREF files rather than copying over and again. This would also help immensely with updates and revisions. Just name the file the same during upload and all “projects” will adapt. In a construction sense, sometimes it makes sense to break out “projects” by discipline because there is so much data, particularly using mobile devices. A file for surface and files for each subsurface utility is the way to go.

You could also manage surfaces and WMTS from the same interface, have it as a one stop shop for all projects.
