Backtracking to points in the field using Reach RX

I currently work for a land developer, but my previous gig was using network rovers to collect location data of buried utilities. I would now like to add a Reach RX to my workflow at this new job.

My question is if this is the right device. I’m not worried about the network connectivity or acheiving sub-centimeter accuracy. Instead, I just want to be confident that the purchase will fulfill my workflow needs.

My main concern is being able to “backtrack” in the field to a previously collected point. What does the process for this entail? Will the Emlid Flow app guide you back to a point in the field? With what accuracy and efficiency will it do so? For example, finding a broken sewer fitting after it shows up on a future televising inspection, or the location of a water valve after its been paved over.

Another idea was the ability to collect locations of buried utilities as we install them, and have the points automatically show up overlayed on the cad file of my utility plans. Almost to create a “live progress map” of my utility install. Though this is less important.

Hi Parker,

Welcome to our community!

This is a basic functionality of the app called Stakeout. The Emlid Flow app will guide you to previously collected or imported points with cm-level precision in real time. You can check out how this works in our video on YouTube.

Our guide also explains the process in detail, so feel free to review it.

As for the second idea, the collected points will immediately appear in the project alongside the CAD file if it was imported to it beforehand. But since you have the stakeout functionality, this should be more convenient for you.

Thank you! I must be bad at searching, as I couldn’t find much pertaining to this. Great video and guide. Exactly what I needed to review before making the purchase.
